Odisha inks pacts with Suzuki, Tech Mahindra, Schneider Electric

In its endeavour to upgrade skills of the youths, the Odisha government signed pacts with leading corporates like Tech Mahindra, Suzuki Motors and Schneider Electric. 

"The MoU (memorandum of understanding) with Tech Mahindra is aimed at hiring students from the polytechnics. For the first time, the software company will be recruiting beyond engineering colleges in Odisha", said Sanjay Singh, secretary, skill development & technical education (Odisha).

A MoU was also inked with Suzuki Motors. The auto major is keen to expand the scope of its collaboration with the state government to hire students.

Separately, the state government signed a pact with Schneider Electric India, a known leader in the transformation of energy management and automation. The company will help upgrade the lab at Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Cuttack. The lab upgradation will help 441 electrician trade trainees of the institute. 

The government-owned ITIs at Berhampur and Hirakud will be supported by the company in a staggered manner. The wider objective of the MoU with Schneider Electric is to collaborate and align the training infrastructure of government ITIs in  Odisha for the electrical programme with industry requirement and expose the trainees to latest technologies and relevant industrial best practices under its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) interventions.

The MoUs for skills enhancement were signed during the second day of Make in Odisha 2018, a biennial investors' summit.

Two more MoUs were executed with Delhi-based placement agency Yess Consultants and Surgeforth Technologies Pvt Ltd, Chennai. Yess Consultants will collaborate with the central placement cell of the Directorate of Technical Education & Training (DTET) to facilitate placement of students pursuing diploma education and ITI training in organizations of repute. On the  other hand, the Chennai based agency will connect trained and assessed candidates with companies for suitable job opportunities and collaborate with the central placement cell of DTET.

The state government is placing huge emphasis on skills training and development. It is investing Rs 14 billion on developing a World Skills Centre. The Odisha Skills Development Authority (OSDA) has entered into a technical collaboration with Singapore-based ITE Educational  Services (ITEES).
