Old Rs 500 notes to be accepted in NH toll booths till Dec 15: Govt
Credit, debit cards and e-wallets can also be used to make toll payments across the country
BS Web Team New Delhi The government on Monday said that toll on National Highways across the country can be paid using old 500-rupee notes till December 15, the Press Trust of India reported.
Besides, credit, debit cards and e-wallets can also be used to pay toll across the country.
The Union Home Ministry has asked the state governments to deploy adequate police, duty magistrates at toll booths on National Highways in order to avoid a law and order problem.
Earlier, the government had allowed old 500-rupee notes to be used for paying toll only till December 3.
Here is the list of other places where you can still use your old notes till December 15:
Government hospitals for medical treatment and pharmacies in government hospitals for buying medicines with doctor's prescription
At railway ticketing counters, ticket counters of government or Public Sector Undertakings buses
Purchases at consumer cooperative stores operated under authorisation of Central or state governments; customers need to provide identity proof; However, the purchase will be limited to Rs 5,000 at a time
Purchase at milk booths operating under authorisation of the Central or state governments
Payments at crematoria and burial grounds
Payments in all pharmacies on production of doctor's prescription and proof of identity
Purchases of LPG gas cylinders
Catering services on board, during travel by rail
Purchasing tickets for travel by suburban and metro rail services
Purchase of entry tickets for any monument maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India
Fees, charges, taxes or penalties, payable to the Central or state governments including Municipal and local bodies
Utility charges for water and electricity only, limited to individuals or households for payment of arrears or current charges. No advance payments shall be allowed
Payment towards court fees
Payments towards purchase of seeds from centres, units or outlets belonging to the Central or state governments, Public Sector Undertakings, National or State Seeds Corporations, Central or State Agricultural Universities and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, on production of proof of identity: Provided that for the purposes of this clause, specified bank notes shall mean bank notes of the denominational value of Rs 500
Payment of school fees up to Rs 2,000 per student in Central government, state government, municipality and local body schools
Payment of fees in Central or state government colleges
Payments towards pre- paid mobile top-up to a limit of Rs 500 per top-up
