Public sector Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has resumed its oil and gas exploration activities in Nagaland. The activities had been suspended in 1994 "because of various problems".
The problems have been overcome following a number of meetings between ONGC, the petroleum ministry and the state government, an official press release issued here said.
"This is a significant development which, in turn, will give boost the development activities in Nagaland," Union petroleum minister Ram Naik said.

ONGC has already established high potentiality of the petroliferous the Assam-Arakan basin, covering 3,000 sq km in Nagaland.
The company has prognosticated "in place" reserves of 600 million tonne of hydrocarbons, with the prospect of raising the production of one million tonne per year within a short period.
