The government would appoint outstanding professionals to head the Archaeological Survey of India and other national cultural institutions, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today. This will be part of a larger plan to professionalise the management of cultural resources and institutions.
“The task of preserving our ancient historical and cultural treasures must devolve on the best professionals available in our country. We recognise that bureaucratization tends to negate cultural expression and preservation. As a decisive step, we have liberalised rules for recruiting the executive heads of eight national-level cultural institutions. We are going to appoint outstanding professionals to head the Archaeological Survey of India and other institutions very soon,” said Singh.
He was speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the second phase of Science City in Kolkata and the tele-inauguration of the new campus of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies.
