The Punjab government has inked a Memorendum of Understanding (MoU) with GIZ India (the Indian subsidiary of Germany-based GIZ) for setting up four multi-skilled development centres at an investment of Rs 250 crore.
Anil Joshi, industry and commerce minister, Punjab, in the presence of Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal said that the four centres would be located at Bhatinda, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar. Theses centres are expected to commence operations in four years from now, said Joshi.
Talking about the future prospects of industrial development in the state during the Investment Promotion Summit organised by Assocham in Chandigarh on Monday, Joshi said the course module would offer practical training to students on machines in different industries located in different states of India.
He added that many players in Punjab in the knitting sector have put up state-of-the-art machines that are running on manual mode due to dearth of manpower to run those on automotive mode.
“These machines are giving 40 per cent less output on manual mode. Since trained engineers are not able to run the macines, these are run on sub-optimal capacity,” he added.
He added that Punjab industries department was leaving no stone unturned to incorporate the the suggestions of the industry leaders for framing the revised Industrial Policy.
He further said that the Industrial Policy of 2009 would be soon revised.
Representatives of over 100 industries participated in the summit organised by the Assocham.
In order to curb the real estate transaction in the grab of industrial activities, the state government may soon formulate a policy under which the allotees will have to set up industry within three years of allocation.
After a minimum five years of production in the premises, he would be allowed to trasfer the land.
An OTS scheme is also being evaluated to restart the sick units, office of the Uddyog Sahayak would be revamped and deemed approval for the projects in one month would be given for the upcoming projects with no objections, announced the minister.
