Rebels Kill 5, Injure 9 Jawans In J-K

Six people, including a militant, were killed and nine security force personnel injured in separate militancy-related activities across Jammu and Kashmir since Thursday evening.

An official spokesman said a hardcore militant was killed in a gun-battle with troops at Kachwari village in Badgam district of central Kashmir on Thursday night, adding an AK assault rifle, two grenades, a wireless set and some ammunition were recovered from him.

Militants shot dead a counter-insurgency militant Ghulam Jeelani inside his house in Bandipora area of Baramulla district on Thursday evening, he said. Three more persons were killed each in Haratang Pazal village of Baramulla, Inderwan and Gujjar pati Sogam villages of Kupwara, the spokesman added.

Suspected ultras also blew up two vehicles of security forces in ramnagar area of Udhampur district of Jammu region injuring nine personnel of CRPF and local police, the spokesman said.

He said five militants associated with banned Hizbul Mujahideen, Al-umer and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front outfits were arrested during searches in Pulwama, Srinagar and Pattan in Baramulla district.

A powerful explosion rocked the chicken neck area near the line of actual control (LAC) in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district yesterday , top police officials said.

However, there was no report of any casualty or damage to property, they said.Police and army troops have launched a search operation in the area to nab the militants responsible for the blast.

The explosion occurred in the border area of Bagwal, 100 metres from the line of actual control .

Top police officials visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
