The government floor managers have ensured listing of  the items pertaining to the FDI in retail in such a manner that both the policy decision and the required amendment in FEMA gets Parliamentary approval together and if possible even with the nod from Lok Sabha only.

The motion for discussion "That this House recommends to the Government to immediately withdraw its decision to allow 51% Foreign Direct Investmernt in multi-brand retail trade" will be moved by BJP's Sushma Swaraj and Left MP Khagen Das in the Lok Sabha first at around 2 pm today.

Simultaneously the motions for modification of FEMA will be laid on the table of the house by govt.

With this, the motion of TMC MP Saugata Roy and independent MP Hassan Khan for omission of the provisions to facilitate multi-brand retail in FEMA will also be taken up. (For complete list of the itinerary click here)

The amendment motions also ask "That this House (Lok Sabha) recommends to Rajya Sabha that Rajya Sabha do concur in this resolution".

Though experts are of the opinion that the FEMA amendments need approval of both the houses, the government floor managers are apparently trying to complete the job in Lok Sabha itself keeping in mind the problems they can face in Rajya Sabha.

The discussion in Lok Sabha will take place today and tomorrow and the alloted time is eight hours before voting.
