The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear the plea for a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Sadiq Batcha.
Appearing for Centre for Public Interest Litigation, the NGO which had earlier demanded a CBI probe into the 2G scam, advocate Prashant Bhushan pleaded before the court that the death was related to the scam and should also be probed by the same investigating agency.
Bhushan said the state government was reportedly in favour of a CBI probe into Batcha’s death. In view of Bhushan’s submission that the state government favoured a CBI probe, a bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly said it would hear the application if it is filed, and suggested that the lawyer wait for some time “as some development might take place during the day.”
Bhushan said he would file the application and bring the matter before the bench if the state government did not decide on the CBI probe in the case.
