The Orissa government is considering a proposal of the Union ministry of New and Renewable Energy sources (MNRE) to make use of solar water heater mandatory for certain specified categories of buildings.
The secretary in the MNRE, government of India (GoI), had written a letter to the Orissa chief secretary to promote the use of solar heaters, which would help save energy. Besides, the Union secretary has urged the state government to promote green building technology for reduction of energy demand.
Sources said, the state housing and urban development department would prepare the specification of the buildings where the use of water heater would be made mandatory.
