Saleem Sherwani, party's well known Muslim face and MP from Bareily, today admitted that "we were in a position to only pledge support of 36 MPs to the government.''

Sherwani said this as his party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh, general secretary, were getting ready to meet President Pratibha Patil, for handing a letter of support to the UPA government.

Hectic activities were going on inside Amar Singh's residence as the party leaders were struggling to keep its flock together.

Meanwhile, Munawar Hasan, SP rebel, who had recently joined the BSP, claimed that at least five-six MPs would vote against the government in case it a floor test.
