In order to reduce logistic cost and ensure sufficient availability of raw material to chemical units in Gujarat, state-owned companies and Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) will work together for adding value to various raw materials used by chemicals companies.

“Gujarat government seeks to promote value addition of chemical raw materials in existing industrial estates run by GIDC in the state. The government has asked state PSUs such as GACL, GNFC and GSFC to co-ordinate with GIDC for adding value to raw materials used by chemical units,” Saurabh Patel, minister of state for energy and petrochemicals, Gujarat government said while dedicating GACL’s 39 Mw wind farm at Dahej.

“Gujarat is a hub of chemical industry. These three public sector companies produce several chemicals and byproducts, which are consumed by other chemical units in the state. Gujarat government is of the view that the chemicals manufactured by state-PSUs should be consumed by local units for making other chemical products,” he added.

With a view to promoting small and medium enterprises in chemical industry, the state government plans to make special allocation of 1,000 hectares for SMEs in chemical zones such as Dahej.

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi also praised the state-run companies for their performance.

“Economists should come to Gujarat and study the growth of public sector companies owned by Gujarat government,” said Modi while addressing the chemical industry players, who gathered at the foundation stone laying ceremony at GACL’s Dahej facility.
