Tourist spots and hotels in hill stations like Shimla, Nainital and Mussoorie are expected to rake in the moolah with increased tourist inflow during the Commonwealth Games (CWG) as schools and colleges will remain closed in the capital, an industry body study has said.
"Tourism will flourish in hill stations of northern India during the fortnight-long sporting event contributing a good deal of revenue to respective states," Assocham study said.
It said hotels, especially high-end ones, may witness an increase in their revenues with a rise in tourist inflow in these states.
"Luxurious hotels have already been booked and there is hardly any space left out for those who are now planning to go out during the CWG event," Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat said in a statement.
To ensure decongestion of roads for smooth conduct of the CWG, Delhi government had decided to close city schools and colleges during the sporting event to be held in the national capital from October 3 to 14.
Delhiites may chose to visit these hilly areas in the first-half of the October because these locations suit them due to shorter distance coupled with pleasant weather conditions, it said.
Further, the study said, even some corporates may prefer spending their leisure time in these states, since less corporate events would be planned in the NCR region to avoid congestions.
