Tata Power Company (TPC), the country’s largest private power utility, today said it had added 30,000 new consumers to its retail network across its distribution network in Mumbai.
As on 22 March, the power utility has acquired over 25,000 changeover consumers and around 6,200 new consumers.
The additional consumers comprise of a mix of residential, commercial and industrial customers, including new and changeover. The changeover consumer-mix includes 19,046 residential consumers, 4,570 commercial and 1,564 industrial consumers. The new consumer mix includes 4,838 residential consumers, 1,241 commercial and 79 industrial consumers, a company statement said.
TPC had a 26,000 direct consumer base before it started expanding its retail business in the Mumbai market. Its consumer base is at 56,000, with an addition of around 500 new consumers a day.
The customer base, according to TPC, doubled in the past five months. TPC started its expansion in June 2009. “We are delighted with the response and the faith shown by the consumers of Mumbai in choosing Tata Power as its partner to deliver quality and reliable power supply,” said S Padmanabhan, executive director, operations, TPC.
Mumbai has about 38 lakh consumers and is served by three distribution licensees — BEST, R-Infra and TPC. A committee appointed by the Maharashtra government to resolve the issues of Mumbai electricity consumers yesterday directed Tata Power to continue supply of 500 Mw to Reliance Infrastructure.
