At least 20 people, most of them employees of JK Paper Mill at Rayagada in Orissa, were taken ill following leakage of chlorine gas in the plant this morning.
While one of the affected persons, whose condition is stated to be serious, has been admitted to hospital at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, the others were treated at the local ESI hospital.
The plant authorities, however, said all the employees who were affected due to the gas leakage were released after treatment.
“The mishap was not of serious nature. We took immediate step to stop the leakage from the chlorine gas cylinder” said JK Paper’s Vice President (Executive) MC Goel. The gas leak was only for a brief period and the operation of plant was not affected by this mishap, he added.
