Urban Chhattisgarh is facing more problem than rural. Literally, if the number of applications received during the government campaign is taken into account.

The state government had launched the nagar suraj campaign (city contact) —a programme that ensures taking governance to the doorstep of the people. The nagar suraj campaign was launched for the first time as the government had been running a similar campaign in the rural pockets since last couple of years.

Under the campaign, the team of government officials would visit each ward in the urban locality and note down their grievances. The authorities had been organizing the camp in the area under the week-long campaign that ended on November 26. The officials have received applications from the people; the compiling of which are in progress.

According to officials in the urban development department, more than 500,000 applications have been received during the campaign across the state. “About 200,000 applications were fed in the computers on Tuesday as the process had been on-line,” the officials said, adding that of the total applications, more than 90 per cent are in connection with the demands made by the people.

The demands include basic infrastructure like roads, street lights, drinking water and other basic amenities. The number of applications related to complaints had been nominal. The applications would be now forwarded to the department concerned for taking action.

What had surprised the officials was the number of complaint that had been received from the urban localities. In this year’s gram suraj campaign, the state government had received about 400,000 applications from the villagers while the nagar suraj campaign had surpassed it.
