Gujarat Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela today ruled out a coalition government with the Congress as a partner in Gujarat.

In an informal chat with reporters here, Vaghela said it was for the Congress party to think on whether or not to join the government. To a query on the Congress support to his party, Vaghela said: It would continue. He said the Congress leaders had extended him full support in the by-election leading to his victory.

Vaghela said his party along with Congress would unitedly frustrate the communal and divisive forces. The Chief Minister said his government had taken up the agenda of the Congress party for implementation and accordingly, drinking water, power, education and infrastructre development had been given top priority with an emphasis on transparent administration. For Vaghela, who made his maiden entry into the assembly, winning the bye-election was a must to meet the constitutional obligation of getting elected to the House within six months of assuming office. , a deadline which expires on April 23.
