The AMR-AP Academy of Rural Development held the valedictory session of its first group of Extension Officers (Panchayat Raj and Rural Development) here on Thursday.

The group consisting of 150 officers has been trained in five simultaneous batches on a 21-week intensive foundation training, the first of its kind in the history of Panchayat Raj department.

The post of Extension Officer was created on the state government's decision to merge the earlier separate posts for Panchayat Raj and rural development.

A total outlay of about Rs 15,000 crore has been sanctioned by the centre to the state for rural development, said chief guest J C Diwakar Reddy, minister for Panchayat Raj, on the occasion.
