In the face of intense protest from tribal villages of the Mandla district, the Madhya Pradesh government on Monday decided to buy 700 megawatts (Mw) of power from the proposed Chutka nuclear power project.

The villagers, however, refused to accept land acquisition notices and said they would assemble on August 19 to protest against the project. Villagers have intensified their protest against the project as they have not yet been informed about its radiation risk.
