A resident of Jamshedpur, 64-year-old Mahanty who retired as the vice-president (Human Resources) with the Tata Steel, joined the party on March 15 in presence of party chief Shibu Soren and state Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Besides Jamshedpur, JMM is contesting in Dumka, Giridih and Raj Mahal constituencies in the ensuing general elections while leaving the rest ten seats for ruling ally Congress.
