The Congress-led UPA must be defeated in the Lok Sabha election if Tamil Nadu is to become the "numero uno" state in India, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said Sunday.

Campaigning for AIADMK candidate D John Thangam in Kanyakumari, around 700 km from Chennai, Jayalalithaa said: "If Tamil Nadu has to be numero uno in the country and if it has to secure its needs, there should be a government change at the centre."

The coming elections will determine the country's fate and prosperity, she said. "If India's future has to be bright, there should be a change of government (in New Delhi)."

She listed the various developmental schemes the AIADMK government has executed for Kanyakumari district in the last 33 months.

Jayalalithaa said a 250-acre industrial park to attract marine related industries was being developed in Kanyakumari district.

She promised that "if your government assumes office at the centre, it will take the country on a growth path by increasing exports and limiting imports on need basis".

She promised that a new India government in which the AIADMK will have a major say will bring a resolution in the UN to punish those who committed war crimes in Sri Lanka.
