Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of indulging in caste-based politics and misleading people for political gains.

"The BJP mislead people and try trapping them. They are doing caste based politics. They want to divide people. They have a cheap mentality, and their ideology tries to harm the diversity of this nation," said Sonia while addressing a rally here.

She also asserted that on one side there is a party, which is divisive and does not hear the oppressed lot, and on the other side there is secular Congress.

"They allege that we are weak in fighting terrorism. But it was during NDA Government's tenure that thousands of people were killed in terrorist attacks," Sonia said.

"The BJP has already announced that they will discontinue the pro poor schemes that are being run by the UPA Government, if they come to power. They don't want to see our work. They are not ready to accept the truth," she added.

On Gujarat Model of development, Sonia said, "Many women and children suffer from malnourishment in Gujarat. Farmers are struggling for basic amenities there."

"If this (Modi) person becomes PM, then what will happen to the future of our children?" she asked.
