A day after BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's blistering attack, the Maharashtra's former chief minister and Congress candidate from Nanded, Ashok Chavan hit back saying that why Modi is silent on BJP's decision to give candidature to Karnataka's former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa from Shimoga seat despite his alleged involvement in land scam.

''I will not speak on Adarsh case as it is sub judice. Allegations against me are baseless. Modi and BJP are silent about Yeddyurappa who has been held guilty by the Karnataka Lok Ayukta. Instead, they are raking up Adarsh issue despite being sub judice,'' Chavan said during campaigning in Nanded constituency.

Chavan, whose candidature was defended by the party president Sonia Gandhi, was responding to Modi's scathing attack against the Congress leadership for fielding Chavan despite corruption taint in the Adarsh housing scam.

''Corruption in Kargil coffin case (which came to the fore during BJP-led NDA government) is already exposed. Therefore, BJP and Modi have no moral right to speak against corruption or scams,'' Chavan noted.

Modi in his speech on Sunday had mocked at the Congress leadership for nominating Chavan. “The Congress president Sonia Gandhi believes Ashok Chavan is Congress’ ‘Adarsh’ (ideal) candidate for 2014, Lok Sabha elections,” Modi had remarked. Sunday.

However, today on the occasion of Gudhi Padva, Chavan was greeted by a large number of supporters and reaffirmed faith and confidence in his leadership. Undeterred by Modi's salvo, Chavan continued his campaigning in various parts of the Nanded constituency.

''I will get more votes if Modi continues to target me by stooping to low level. A national leader like Modi should self introspect and improve his language during the ongoing campaigning,'' Chavan said.
