Emami Limited’s FMCG business recorded a consolidated growth of 21.6 per cent in net sales to touch Rs 127 crore during the quarter ended September 2008 over the corresponding quarter in the previous year, led by strong sales and new brand introductions in personalcare products.

Net Profit grew by 29.6 per cent to touch Rs 14.7 crore while EBIDTA grew by 39.8 per cent to touch Rs 14.6 crore during the quarter under review.

For the first half year ended September 2008, sales grew by 20.2 per cent to touch Rs 252 crore while net profit grew by 24.4 per cent to close at Rs 24 crore and EBIDTA grew by 23.9 per cent to touch Rs 25.9 crore.

During the quarter under review, Emami acquired 27.5 per cent in Zandu Pharmaceuticals Works Limited in May 2008. Subsequently upon open offer and acquisition of further shares from the existing promoters of Zandu, Emami’s present holding in Zandu would reach 66.44 per cent.

During the quarter under review, Emami’s international business grew by 48 per cent over the corresponding previous to touch Rs 20 crore.

For the half year ended September 2008, international business grew by 46 per cent with revenues at Rs 36 crore, led mainly by Middle East and Africa.

While development of new products and new markets continue in Emami, thrust is being put on increasing distribution and penetration in existing markets and to initiate development of a globally recognised brand.

Currently, Boroplus Antiseptic Cream is the largest selling Antiseptic cream not only in India but also in Ukraine, Russia and Nepal.
