The corporate office of LIC Housing Finance Ltd (LICHFL) is being relocated to Yogakshema, the headquarters of the Life Insurance Corporation of India in Mumbai, following a fire at LICHFL's office at 4:50 this morning.

Repair work was going on at the corporate office, situated above Akbarally's, Fort, in Mumbai. Sources said the fire broke out following a short-circuit, causing extensive physical damage.

The LICHFL corporate office will operate from the LIC headquarters for the next fortnight to one month, LIC managing director N C Sharma said. LICHFL will require a temporary 2,000 sqft space for the 20-odd member team.

LICHFL director and chief executive Kranti Sinha said all documents with the housing finance company were safe "as these do not come to the corporate office, and remain with the area offices".

References that come to the corporate office for sanction of loans are not expected to be affected as back up of the computer system takes place daily, Sinha said.
