Rupee ends lower at 45.86/$

MARKETS REPORT

Outlook: The rupee is expected to open between 45.80 and 45.86 against the greenback on Thursday.

Sentiment: Bullish

• The rupee opened at 45.76/78 per dollar and close lower at 45.85/86.
• Premiums on forward dollars remained rangebound. Annualised premiums on six-month and one-year dollars closed at 1.80 per cent and 1.49 per cent respectively.

Money market

Sentiment: Bearish

• Prices of illiquid government paper remained active as investors sought better yield differential.
• The 12.32 per cent 2011 gilt, the most illiquid one, recorded the highest volume.
• Prices of long-term gilt moved down by 15 paise, while there was not much activity in the short- and medium-term segment.
• Yield on the ten-year benchmark paper, 7.37 per cent 2014, closed higher at 6.1550 per cent, compared with 6.12 per cent.
• Call money rates ended at 4.50-4.75 per cent.
