The State Level Bankers’ Committee will take up a special campaign this month to clear the backlog lending to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore to the self-help groups (SHGs).

According to the mapping by the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty, the nodal agency deal for SHGs, there was a gap of Rs 2,000 crore during October. This was one of the reasons for the SHGs to take loans from microfinance institutions.

SLBC directed all the branches to clear the pending SHG applications and also sanction loans to their full eligibility. The SLBC also asked the banks to refraining from locking the money in deposits, according to a release here on Wednesday.
