German Sportswear company Adidas is on the cutting edge of fashion trends. Adidas is now creating state-of-the-art footgear and achieving its 'sustainability' goal by collaborating with Parley for the Oceans.

Adidas has made shoes from recycled ocean waste.

According to the company, "Last year, they 3D printed a prototype, with the goal of demonstrating how the industry could "rethink design and help stop ocean plastic pollution".

Now those shoes are available to public. 95% of the shoe's upper part is made of ocean plastic, taken from Maldives shore. The remaining part of the shoe is also made mostly out of recycled materials. These contemporary shoes have been called "UltraBOOST Uncaged Parley".

Adidas has made around 7,000 pairs that will be sold offline and online from mid-November. For Adidas fans in India, the company has set aside 60 pairs. One retail store each in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, will house the UltraBOOST. A pair of shoes will cost around Rs 21,000.

The company has also made similar environment friendly soccer jerseys for football clubs Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

“Globally, the company has made 7,000 pairs. However, only 60 pairs will be available in India,” Dave Thomas, MD, Adidas Group India, told HT.

"Adidas will build one million pairs globally by the end of 2017, enabling us to bring more pairs to India," he added.

This isn't the first time a sportswear company is taking initiative to create shoes made out of biodegradable and recyclable materials. In 2013 Puma launched similar shoes and jackets. Later, Woodland launched a range of shoes in India using vegetable tanned leather, recycled tires and cotton.
