Industrial output in South Korea rose for two consecutive months in January as business activities were strong despite less working days due to the Lunar New Year holiday, a government report showed Friday.

Production in all industries, including manufacturing, service, construction and public administration sectors, grew 1.4% in January from a month earlier after gaining 0.4% in the previous month, Xinhua reported citing the Statistics Korea.

Output in mining and manufacturing industries inched up 0.1% in January after expanding 2.4% in the previous month. It was attributable to a fall in business days caused by the Lunar New Year holiday that moved to January this year from February last year.

Production in the construction sector jumped 9.7% last month with service and public administration rising 0.9% and 4.2% respectively.
