The first polling stations for Tuesday's US 2016 presidential election have opened in the state of Vermont.

The American electorate are to begin voting for Democrat Party candidate Hillary Clinton or her Republican counterpart Donald Trump, Efe news reported.

The first stations opened at 5 a.m., local time.
