The average stipend in the summer placements for the Batch 17 of the post graduate programme (PGP) students of IIM Kozhikode (IIMK) has increased 36 per cent. There is also a 20 per cent hike recorded in the number of offers per company.

The institute finished the summer placements in a short time by securing internships for all participating students. The highest domestic stipend offered stood at Rs 2 lakh.

One of the highlights of the season was the increase in number of roles offered by regular recruiters. A 20 per cent increase in the number of offers per company resulted in lesser number of companies participating in the placements as compared with last year for almost the same batch strength of 366.

Top recruiters this season include Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Tata Administrative Services (TAS), which selected 30 students.

The first time recruiters were L'Oreal, Godrej, Castrol, Cipla, Aviva, Altisource, Dell, InMobi, Whirlpool, Vodafone, Saint-Gobain, Aricent, Bosch and ACC.

Finance emerged as one of the most-preferred verticals. Close to 20 per cent of the batch secured internships in finance from recruiters across industries, which included firms like Citibank, JPMC, American Express, ICICI, Edelweiss, Aviva, Dell and L&T.

In general management and consulting vertical, students will intern with Deloitte, Aditya Birla Group, Mahindra Group, Philips, Cognizant Business Consulting, Reliance Industries and RPG.

The institute maintained its track record in sales and marketing with regular recruiters like HUL, ITC, Asian Paints, Airtel, Pepsi, Marico, Pidilite, Kelloggs, Madura and Raymond, a press release said. Niche sectors like media, event management, healthcare and sports management also made their presence felt.

IIMK will kick-off lateral placements season in December 2013, and final placements season in January 2014, the press release added.
