Management roles dominated the final placement for Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Calcutta’s Class of 2014. While the IIM saw a significant rise in compensation, one of the key trends this year was the increase in international roles offered by recruiters such as Optiver, Alshaya, Protiviti, Mahindra Comviva, Airtel and Sharaf DG.

Despite the economic slowdown, many investment banks, management consulting, marketing and general management firms recruited from the campus.

According to an IIM-Calcutta statement, it witnessed the highest number of pre-placement offers (PPOs) in the management consulting domain across all IIMs, at 27.

Consulting firm  Opera hired exclusively from IIM-Calcutta and made five offers.

Going strong on its legacy of being the finance campus of India, IIM-Calcutta received one of the highest number of offers in India for the coveted investment banking divisions (IBD) of banks. From the financial sector, Nomura, Royal Bank of Scotland, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Standard Chartered, Macquarie, Dunia Finance, Kotak IBD, ICICI, DBS, IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank and IDBI made offers.

“On an overall basis, Amazon made the highest number of offers (16, including PPOs) on campus for various leadership and operation roles. The noted general management roles were offered by Aditya Birla Group, Mahindra, Airtel, Reliance Industries, C K Birla Group, Cairn India, etc. Marketing firms which offered roles included Hindustan Unilever, Procter & Gamble, ITC, Nestlé and Mondelez,” said IIM-Calcutta.
