Dear Students, LAST WEEK WE ASKED: Do you think the Union Budget should have announced more incentives for research and innovation?
BEST RESPONSE Research and innovation lags in India due to brain drain of young scientists and researchers opting for foreign countries. The two biggest reasons for this brain drain are inadequate financial assistance, incentives which makes costly instruments, material and procedures followed by other impediments like delayed approvals, uncertainties around FDI policies, implementation of DPCD, etc making this sector face immense competition from countries like China. The Union Budget thus should have announced more incentives for research and innovation thereby watching out for other hindrances as well.

OTHER RESPONSES Developed nations like the US and Australia annually spend $30 billion and $20 billion respectively for research and innovation only in the field of health care. India being the second largest nation population wise, has immense potential to be a leader in innovation globally. It should invest more in research, so that the youth of india can pursue their research in our country rather than going abroad.
