XIMB placement sees flat growth in average salary

Beating the blues of economic slowdown premier B- School, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) has managed to register only 3.41 per cent growth in average salary offers compared to last year for its flagship Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme. The batch had 179 students for the academic year 2011-13.

The average annual compensation package of the students stood at Rs 11.81 lakhs, marginally up from Rs 11.42 lakh for the 2010-12 batch.

"It has been a tough year due to the economic slowdown. We have focused more on the job profiles. We are also maintaining a wait and watch policy in the coming year as it is going to be an election year," said Savita Mohanty, placement coordinator, XIMB.

Over 130 companies participated in the placement process, "Xuberance 2013".

Three candidates from PGDM and one from PGDM (Rural management) have bagged international offers.

South African based IT firm IN2IT offered the highest package of about $70000 a year in global job category, while the highest domestic salary was Rs 17.25 lakh a year for the PGDM students.

Consulting and system sector continued to be the preferred choice of the students, accounting for about 46 per cent of total placements.

While 22 per cent students accepted jobs in marketing sector, 21 per cent went to financial service companies and about 11 per cent chose general management, strategy and operations related jobs.

Cognizant Business Consulting, Deloitte, KPMG were some of the major recruiters for the consulting sector. Big companies like Wipro, Polaris, Mahindra and Mahindra, Larsen and Turbo, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services etc also came calling to the premier B School.

Similarly, all the 59 outgoing students of the first batch of PGDM (HRM) are placed with an average annual compensation of Rs 9.4 lakh. Tata Corp HR, Aditya Birla HR leadership programme, Amrop , ITC Infotech etc were some of the top recruiters of the 2011-13 batch of PGDM (HRM).

The institute recorded full placements in Rural Management course with highest salary touching Rs 9.65 lakh per annum and average salary hovering around Rs 5.62 lakh per year.
