Copper futures prices rose Rs 1.95 to Rs 445.85 per kg today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, the February contract rose by Rs 1.95, or 0.44% to Rs 445.85 per kg in 7,848 lots.

Similarly, the April contract moved up by Rs 1.80, or 0.40% to Rs 449.90 per kg in 237 lots.

Marketmen said apart from pick-up in domestic demand, a firming trend overseas influenced copper futures.

Besides data showing that manufacturing in China for December expanded at the fastest pace also had a positive impact.  China is the biggest consumer of the metal.

Meanwhile, the contract in 3 months traded 1.8% higher at $ 8,070.25 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange, the highest since December 18.
