At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the April contract moved up by Rs 16, or 0.31%, to Rs 5,097 per barrel in 835 lots.

Prices went up as speculators created fresh positions amid firm trend in Asia.

Firming trend in Asia were triggered by a weaker dollar that made dollar-priced commodity cheaper and spurred demand.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), the April contract advanced by 15 cents to $93.21 a barrel.
