Tracking firm global trends, crude oil futures prices surged by Rs 63 to Rs 4,307 per barrel today on fresh buying by speculators.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, crude oil for April delivery surged by Rs 63, or 1.48 per cent, to Rs 4,307 per barrel, with a trade volume of just one lot.
Similarly, the oil for delivery in January rose by Rs 15, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs 4,158 per barrel, with a business turnover of 144 lots.
Market experts said speculators enlarging their positions on the back of firm global trends, mainly led to a rise in crude oil futures prices.
Meanwhile, crude oil advanced $1.03 to $91.51 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest since October 3, 2008.
