The National Horticulture Board (NHB) is registering Dussehri under the Geographical Indication (GI) Act for better marketing and visibility in the international market. It recently filed an application with the GI Registrar and now the process of registration is on the roll.
Dussehri is primarily grown in the Malihabad region of Lucknow district in Uttar Pradesh. In fact, Malihabad is well known for its Dussehri mango orchards.
"A lot of research has to be done as to technical and historical aspects of the item to be registered under the GI Act. We have done all the ground work and prepared a database on the subject," NHB deputy director Brajendra Singh told Business Standard.
Today, a high-level Consultative Group (CG), comprising of experts, heard the NHB arguments in favour of grating the registration to Dussehri. NHB and the mango growers want Dussehri to be registered as
