Coal and ethanol could be the new additions to commodities traded on the multicommodity exchanges.

The Forward Markets Commission (FMC) has referred proposals in this regard to the ministry of coal and the ministry of food and consumer affairs, respectively.

S Sundareshan, chairman, FMC, said copper will also be shortly traded on the bourses.

He said there have also been presentations for trading power and crude oil. But no concrete proposal has been received so far, he added.

"Some presentations on power trading on the exchanges were made in the recent past. We are still looking into the issue. Similar representations have also been made in crude oil," he said.
