Market opens weak on -ve global cues; HDFC drops 3%

The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 152 points at 14,413 owing to negative cues from the global markets. The index is now down 136 points at 14,429.

HDFC has plunged 2.8% to Rs 2,279. Maruti has tumbled 2.5% to Rs 634.

NTPC and SBI have slipped over 2% each to Rs 172 and Rs 1,374, respectively.

ICICI Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra have shed 2% each at Rs 658 and Rs 567, respectively.

Reliance Infrastrucutre, Jaiprakash Associates, BHEL, DLF, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank and Tata Power are the other prominent losers.

Satyam, however, is up almost 1% at Rs 424.
