On Friday, benchmark share indices ended lower, amid weak global cues, as traders booked profits ahead of the truncated week and February IIP data which was released after market hours. The 30-share Sensex ended down 86 points at 22,629 and the 50-share Nifty closed 20 points lower at 6,776.
Most Asian stock indices are trading lower today tracking losses on Wall Street on Friday while emerging crisis in Ukraine also weighed on investor sentiment. The Nikkei was down 0.1%, Straits Times was up 0.5%, Hang Seng was down 0.1% and Shanghai Composite was down 0.3%.
Major US stock indices ended lower for the second straight session on Friday amid mixed first quarter earnings from major corporates. The Dow Jones ended down 0.9% at 16,026.75, S&P 500 lost nearly 1% to end at 1,815.69 and the tech-laden Nasdaq ended down 1.3% at 3,999.73.
Markets will resume trading on Tuesday with focus on Infosys as the IT major kicks off the fourth quarter earnings season while its guidance for the year ahead will be keenly watched.
The government will also release inflation numbers based on the Consumer Price Index and Wholesale Price Index on Tuesday.
