Markets end lower

The Sensex ended at 17,047, down 54 points and Nifty shut at 5,096, down 27 points (provisional closing).

The Sensex remains to exhibit lacklustre movement and is now at 17,091, down 10 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,110, down 13 points.

The Sensex has erased all its losses and is now flat at 17,108, down five points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,118, down eight points.

IT stocks like TCS and Wipro have advanced 2% each to Rs 775 and Rs 709, respectively.

Maruti, HDFC, Sun Pharma and Infosys have added 1% each at Rs 1,502, Rs 2,643, Rs 1,653 and Rs 2,686, respectively.

Tata Motors on the other hand is the major loser on the Sensex, down 3% at Rs 773. Jaiprakash Associates and Hero Honda are down 2% each on the BSE.

The market breadth is negative, out of 2,823 shares traded, 1,587 have declined and 1,161 have advanced so far on the BSE.

Among the sectoral indices, IT index has added 1%. Financial Technology has advanced 3.5% to Rs 1,595. It is followed by Patni Computers, Rolta India and TCS have added 2% each.

The metal and the oil & gas index on the other hand have slipped 1% each on the BSE.
