Markets end on a positive note

The Sensex ended at  and the Nifty closed at 15949, weaker by 158 points and the Nifty ended at 4766, down 48 points.

The markets have held on the gains in today's special trading session. The Sensex is now up 123 points at 15,914. The NSE Nifty is up 35 points at 4,754.

The BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indexes are up over 1% each.

Jaiprakash Associates, Hindalco and Tata Power have advanced around 2% each to Rs 128, Rs 141 and Rs 1,310, respectively.

Sterlite and DLF added 1.5% each to Rs 748 and Rs 314, respecgtively.

Tata Steel, Reliance, Wipro, Infosys and Maruti Suzuki are the other prominent gainers.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,346 stocks traded so far, 1,748 have advanced, 559 have declined on the BSE.
