MMTC zooms 23% on bonus-cum-stock split plans
The Sensex so far has moved in an extremely narrow band of less than 100-points. The index first touched a high of 17,371, then slipped to a low of 17,299. The markets are trading flat in tandem with other Asian counterparts.
The Sensex is now down 22 points at 17,316. The NSE Nifty is down five points at 51,92.
Sterlite and Reliance Communications head the gainers list among the Sensex stocsk with a gain of 2.5% each at Rs 669 and Rs 183, respectively.
Reliance Infrastructue has added 1.5% to Rs 1,178. Wipro and Jindal Steel are the other notable gainers.
TCS has slipped 1.5% to Rs 768. ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel are the other prominent losers.
In the broader markets, MMTC has zoomed 23% to Rs 35,062 after the government announced its plans to consider a proposal for bonus issue and stock split. The company's board is scheduled to meet on June 29 to consider the same.
Other prominent gainers include - Hindustan Copper, Shree Renuka Sugars, India Infoline, Punj Lloyd and Suzlon Energy.
On the other hand, IRB Infrastructure has shed 2.5% at Rs 280. Educomp Solutions, Zee Entertainment and Madras Cements are the major losers.
