Markets remain quiet

The market continue to trade on the quiet note. The Sensex was up 35 points at 20,108 and the Nifty was higher by 8 points at 6020.

Most of the Asian markets ended the day in the green, Nikkei ended higher by 76 points at 10,355, Taiwan added 31 points to end at 8892, Straits Times ended higher by 16 points at 316, while the Shanghai ended the day in the red shedding 53 points at 2781 and Hang Seng was also trading in the red losing 69 points at 22,833.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sensex fell from the intra-day high levels of 20,190 in the past one hour, the Sensex was up 49 points at 20,122 and Nifty was at 6023 up 12 points.

Tata Power was the top gainer on the Sensex, the stock was trading higher by 1.16% at Rs 1316 followed by TCS, ICICI Bank, DLF, Larsen & Toubro and J P Associates up more than 0.78% each. On the other hand Reliance Communication was the top loser the stock was trading at Rs 137 lower by 2.7%, Reliance Infrastructure also shed more than 1.5% to Rs 802. Sterlite Industries, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Hindalco Industries and HDFC Bank were also notable losers.

Helthcare Stocks were witnessing some buying the BSE Healthcare index was the top sectoral gainer up 0.92% or 60 points at 6640. BSE Capital Goods index was also trading higher by 116 points or 0.77% at 15,312. BSE Consumer Durables, IT, Realty and Auto indices were also higher by more than 0.2% each. While, metal stocks continued to witness the selling pressure the BSE metal index was the top loser, down 0.66% or 114 points at 17,159. BSE PSU index had also slipped marginally in the red down 10 points at 9314.

Dr Reddy's Laboratory was the top gainer among the healthcare stocks, the stock was trading higher by 2.35% at Rs 1721. Divis Lab, opto Circuits, IPCA Laboratories, Glaxosmithkline and Sun Pharme were also major gainers on the healthcare charts, up more than 1% each. Among the metal stocks SAIL, Sterlte Industries, Welspun Corp, JSW Steel, Hindalco Industries and Tata Steel were major loser down more than 1% each.

The broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices, the mid-cap index was up 18 points or 0.24% at 7645 and the small-cap index added 53 points or 0.57% 9407.

The overall market breadth was positive as 1634 stocks advanced while 1058 stocks declined.
