Markets slip into the red

The markets have slipped below the dotted line in the past one hour. The Sensex is quoting at 17554, weaker by 30 points, and the Nifty is at 5252, down 7 points. Consumer goods, IT and auto sectors are trading weak.

ONGC is the top loser on the Sensex, weakening by 1.3% at Rs 1213. L&T, M&M and Infosys have declined by nearly 1% each to Rs 1,650, Rs 1,159 and Rs 2,664 respectively.

Index heavyweight Reliance is trading flat, with a negative bias, at Rs 1117.

On the other hand, Reliance Communications has soared 4.4% to Rs 191 and DLF has advanced 1% to Rs 387. Reliance Infrastructure, TCS and NTPC have added nearly 1% each at Rs 1,135, Rs 789 and Rs 232 respectively.

Out of 2668 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1500 advancing stocks as against 1094 declines.
