Nifty nears 5,000 mark

The Nifty is nearing the 5,000 mark and is now up 69 points at 4,991. The index has recovered smartly from the low of 4,675, touched in February this year.

The Sensex is now at 16,686, up 257 points.

Among the Sensex-30 stocks, Tata Motors has zoomed 9% at Rs 777. Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Sterlite and BHEL have added 3.5% at Rs 599, Rs 1,052, Rs 810 and Rs 2,434, respectively.

ACC, Hindalco, ICICI Bank, ITC and Wipro have added 2-3% each.

DLF on the othert hand has declined 2.5% to Rs 289 and Reliance Infrastructure has slipped 1% to Rs 994.

The market breadth is positive, out of 2,615 shares traded, 1,896 have advanced and 650 have declined so far on the BSE.

Among the sectoral indices, auto and metal indices have gained over 3% each at Rs 7,424 and 16,905, respectively.
