The derivatives markets staged a rally on the first trading session of the week, infused by a rise in Old Economy stocks in the cash market.
The Nifty futures ended higher, logging volume of 3,420 contracts valued at Rs 73.07 crore. All the three futures ended at a premium to the underlying shares. There was a jump in volumes in the near month July and August futures, while the September managed just one trade.
In stock futures segment, 29 underlying securities of the permitted 31 were traded. The total number of contracts traded was 26,061 valued Rs 696.77 crore. In stock futures, Satyam topped with 4,691 contracts. The futures ended at 238.50 against the cash close of 239.70.
Nifty options traded 942 contracts at a notional value of Rs 20.40 crore. The highest volumes of 192 contracts were in the Nifty July call at 1060. Other calls among the top traded were the July call at 1100, 1080 and 1070.
