Potato prices surged by Rs 15.70 to Rs 669.50 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions on strong demand in the spot market due to the ongoing marriage season.
Restricted arrivals from the producing region also supported the uptrend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for April contract surged by Rs 15.70, or 2.40 per cent to Rs 669.50 per quintal in a single lot.
Similarly, the potato for delivery in March contract moved up by Rs 13.30, or 1.89 per cent to Rs 716.50 per quintal in one lot.
Market analysts said speculators increased their positions on strong demand in the spot market supported by the ongoing marriage season, which mainly pushed up the potato futures prices.
