The Sensex opened 92 points lower at 9,213, and is now down 148 points at 9,157.
DLF has slumped over 5% to Rs 148. Reliance Infrastructure, Tata Steel and Mahindra & Mahindra have plunged nearly 3% each to Rs 518, Rs 179 and Rs 306, respectively.
HDFC, ICICI Bank and Grasim have shed 2.3% each at Rs 1,462, Rs 400 and Rs 1,320, respectively.
HDFC Bank, Jaiprakash Assocaites, Reliance Communications, Wipro and SBI have slipped 2% each.
BHEL, Maruti, Bharti Airtel and Reliance are the other major losers.
