The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 272 points at 9,098, and soon tumbled to a low of 8,952. The index is now down 365 points at 9,005.
Jaiprakash Associates has slumped 7.6% to Rs 65. Reliance Communications and Wipro have plunged 6.5% each to Rs 173 and Rs 229, respectively.
DLF, Reliance Infrastructure, ICICI Bank and Sterlite have shed 6% each at Rs 199, Rs 491, Rs 415 and Rs 257, respectively.
Tata Steel and Infosys have dropped around 5% each to Rs 202 and Rs 1,240, respectively.
Hindalco, Reliance and TCS are down 4.5% each at Rs 48, Rs 1,126 and Rs 515, respectively.
All index stocks are in negative zone with losses in excess of 1.5% each.
